Though the intricate web of the universe is not easily seen with our eyes, all things are interconnected and interwoven into the whole that is the Universe and God. The word “universe” comes from the Latin universum, meaning the whole, but etymologically it breaks down into the Latin uni- the genitive case of unus, meaning of the one; and versus, the past participle of the intransitive verb verto, meaning to turn oneself. The Universe is that which has turned itself of the one, or more clearly, it is the turning of the one itself. The Universe, God, Brahman, Love, Consciousness, or whatever label resonates with each individual, is the One that is the Whole or All, that turns, weaves, and spins into and out of itself.
Lesson 108: To Give And To Receive Are One In Truth
Just reading the title of this lesson set off a strong vibration of resonance. The number of the lesson and the title description are beautifully synchronistic. You can read the many many meanings and mathematical explanations of the number 108 here, but here I will discuss the simplest, yet most profound (to me at least), meaning. The Number 1 represents the oneness of all. The “Number” 0 represents the emptiness, that is the non-permanance of the physical/material world. This includes mental attachments, or “grievances” as The Course says. It is also all potential for creation, existence, and experiences. The Number 8 represents infinity, the continuousness of All. The cycle of life and the Universe has no beginning and no end, for what looks like an ending is really a new beginning.
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. – Revelation 22:13
All that is God – you, me, everyone, everything, Love, Truth, Joy, Light, etc. – is the oneness beyond illusion in the emptiness of all potential infinitely, for all “time”.
In this three dimensional realm of duality, each thing and its opposite are just parts of a whole. There is no giving without receiving. There is no left without right. There is no down without up. There is no joy without sorrow. The illusion is that these things are separate, that each of us are separate, and this causes suffering, grievances, and sorrow.
From Lesson 108: light…reconciles all seeming opposites…This is the light that shows no opposites…One thought, completely unified, will serve to unify all thought…To give is to receive.
We are all one. When this realization comes to light, we cannot but give, love, and be.
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether [we be] Jews or Gentiles, whether [we be] bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. – 1 Corinthians 12:13
I and [my] Father are one. – John 10:30
