The Name of God

vibrationsThe next section of lessons from A Course In Miracles since our last review (lessons 171-180) often mentions and talks about the Name of God: Lesson 183: I Call Upon God’s Name And On My Own, and Lesson 184: The Name Of God Is My Inheritance. In my post The Word and Voice of GodI discussed: “When we become quiet and still, when our minds stop chattering about our grievances and fears, our souls within our bodies will “hear” the divine vibration of God’s word and voice; and as we become full of nothing (see this post), we free ourselves to be empty vessels ready and willing to be filled with the reverberating echoes of the voice of God.” But, what is the Name of God?

From Lesson 183: And should you join a brother as you sit in silence, and repeat God’s Name along with him within your quiet mind… see God’s Name replace the thousand little names you gave your thoughts, not realizing that there is one Name for all there is, and all that there will be.

The Name of God, the energy or vibration that is silent and formless, which is the creation and creator of everything, is all that ever was and ever will be. There is only one name for everything, for All, for the One, for Consciousness, for God.

From Lesson 184: Use all the little names and symbols which delineate the world of darkness. Yet accept them not as your reality. The Holy Spirit uses all of them, but He does not forget creation has one Name, one Meaning, and a single Source, Which unifies all things within Itself…God has no name. And yet His Name becomes the final lesson that all things are one, and at this lesson does all learning end. All names are unified.

Consciousness-300x168

Ecclesiastes 1:9: The thing that hath been; it is that which shall be; and that which is done, is that which shall be done; and there is nothing new under the sun.

We give names to organize and categorize people and things in our earthly lives. This is useful and practical, but naming creates separation, and all too often we forget this when we attach names and words to forms, which are impermanent and illusory. The Name of God, however, is without form. It is Formlessness Itself, the eternal, the one Divine Consciousness of all.

This is the great opportunity of loving the human form, because in this form you may come to know the formless– Mooji

The formless infinite Consciousness is what each and every one of us Is, beyond the words and illusions that we are separate from everyone, from everything, and from God. From Lesson 187: And here, before the altar to one God, one Father, one Creator and one Thought, we stand together as one Son of God. Not separate from Him Who is our Source; not distant from one brother who is part of our one Self Whose innocence has joined us all as one, we stand in blessedness, and give as we receive. The Name of God is on our lips.

  1. I enjoyed this Lesson Julianne ..
And can relate when you said “The Name of God, however, is without form. It is Formlessness Itself, the eternal, the one Divine Consciousness of all.”..

I think that is why the sound of OM.. is so powerful.. for we are also told ” In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God”. I have also connected this to be Vibration.. and Vibration is also Light.. The Universe itself is said to hold tone/vibration/ so this is maybe God/Divine Consciousness.. Many thanks for getting my old Grey Matter working this morning 🙂 as I ponder some more 🙂
    Have a beautiful Peaceful weekend

  2. This reminds me of the statement in the Course, “words are but symbols of symbols”. The ego has invented many names for what is always One in an effort to split apart and differentiate. We learn to use the symbols and we identify with them. But the Holy Spirit can transform our use of them so that we can identify with the Christ. Semantics can often get in the way when speaking about God, which is why students of the Course are urged not to let differences in theology delay our joint experience of what the Course (itself a symbol) points towards.
