Who Am “I”?

Through the Peacock's Eyes

the-divineWho am I? This physical brain is not posing the question, who is Julianne Victoria, but who is the “I” that lies behind the individual identity and separate physical body that is experiencing the typing of these words? Who am “I”?

In my post A Vessel of the Divine on the blog Blazing Light of Glory, which this body-mind co-creates with my Course in Miracles study-buddy Lisa of BloomLisa, I discuss how the body, including the individual mind in the physical brain, is how we mostly identify ourselves. The separation from God, Nature, and others that the individual mind believes, however, is just an illusion. This is a very challenging concept for the individual body-mind, the ego. However, what can be even more challenging is understanding who am “I”.

Firstly I’d like to point out that the ego, by which I mean the individual identity connected to each of our…

Still…

stillnessLisa and I are in the middle of Review VI in the Course, which consists of lessons 201-220. At the beginning and end of each of these 20 short review lessons is the mantra:

I am not a body. I am free.

For I am still as God created me.

As I’d read the lessons, I found I preferred to read this mantra out loud each time, just as I would sing other mantras that are part of my everyday life and spiritual practice, and in doing so I felt calm, peaceful, and eternal. In other words, still.

I am not a body. I am free.

For I am still as God created me.

854723-bigthumbnailIn my post On Life, Death, & Original Sin, I discussed how we (our True Self, our souls) are not the physical body. It is our souls, unbound by attachment to the body, that is and is always free. Our souls, as extensions or children of God, are eternal, unchanging, free from the noise of the mind/ego, and at peace.

I am not a body. I am free.

For I am still as God created me.

The word that resonates in my heart as I repeat this mantra is stillStill has many meanings:

  • Motionless, non-moving, non-changing
  • Silent, free from sound
  • Now as before, all the same, eternal
  • Calm, tranquil, peaceful

I am not a body. I am free.

For I am still as God created me.

Stillness2

To be still, to see the stillness that in within each of our hearts, is to know that we are that! We are unchanging. We are silent. We are eternal. We are peace within.

Lesson 220: There is no peace except the peace of God.

Let me not wander from the way of peace, for I am lost on other roads than this. But let me follow Him Who leads me home, and peace is certain as the Love of God.

I am not a body. I am free.

For I am still as God created me.
