What Is Forgiveness?

TwainSince completing the last review section, lessons 201-220, The Course has taken a change of course in how it presents the lessons. They are now broken down into sections of ten lessons with a topic in the form of a question that is covered in the ten lessons. The lessons themselves have become shorter again with one paragraph as a prayer to the Father (God) and one paragraph as the channeled message from Jesus to the authors of The Course.

The first section with this new format is titled: What Is Forgiveness? And in the introduction it states beautifully:

Forgiveness, on the other hand is still, and quietly does nothing. It offends no aspect of reality, nor seeks to twist it to appearances it likes. It merely looks, and waits, and judges not.

Forgiveness seems so hard for so many. Maybe it is because it is thought of as something that we must do, a great effort or task. But that is an illusion. In reality, we only have to let go and do nothing. Forgiveness is the release of the chains that we put on ourselves, of the suffering we create in our minds, so that we can what? Seek revenge? Hurt someone back? Not forgiving harms no one but ourselves. By finding the inner strength to release, let go, and surrender our anger, hatred, and fear into the arms of God, into Love, into Joy, into Peace, we will suddenly find ourselves at that place of stillness where we already are. And, it takes nothing!

In Lesson 225 it states: Father, I must return Your Love for me, for giving and receiving are the same, and You have given all Your Love to me.

When I read for givingI also read forgiving. This made me think of the meaning of forgive. The English word is very similar to the German word for forgive: vergeben, which has more clarity when breaking the word into its two parts: for/ver and give/geben. The give/geben is clear in meaning, but the for/ver tells us how the giving is done: completely, thoroughly, or beyond a boundary (bonds).

Forgiveness is an act of giving fully, thoroughly, beyond the boundaries of the illusions of the mind. This thorough giving is to our own souls, freeing our Selves from the bonds of the illusions of the mind by surrendering it to Love. Forgiving and receiving are the same and all it takes is nothing!

Free Will & The Will of God

An individual’s Road Map

From A Course in Miracles Introduction:

Free will does not mean that you can establish the curriculum. It means only that you can elect what you want to take at a given time.

A few weeks ago during one of the astrology discussion groups I attend, questions came up concerning free will. What is it? Do we really have it or is our path predetermined? If our astrological birth charts are our road maps for our lives, then do we have free will?

When meeting with clients for astrology readings I often am asked these same questions. I usually explain: Our souls made plans about what lessons they wished to learn, what experiences they wished to understand, and what challenges they wished to face in order to grow and expand, and those wishes determine when and where each individual is born. Our birth charts, or natal charts, are the blueprints, or curriculum, our souls created to guide us in those wishes. Our souls’ wishes, those carrying over from other lifetimes and those for this life and future lifetimes, can also be called our karma.

The individual or ego, however, does not plan out the curriculum of our lives, but instead does have choices in how those wishes might come about and in how much of the road map we wish to cover. That is, how far along on our journeys we decide to go. It means only that you can elect what you want to take at a given time.

The first 60 lessons of A Course in Miracles work to help us understand the thinking, mindsets, and illusions of the individual ego. It is always helpful to understand what one is trying to let go of in order to become free from attachment and illusions. For those just beginning the Course, take what you can as you work through the early lessons. Go back and repeat them when ready and if necessary. Growth and expansion is a continuous process.

This week Lisa and I are studying Lessons 73-76. Lesson 74 states: There Is No Will But God’s. We are all beings of Light and Love. Our souls’ wish(es) is to return to that understanding, to return to God. From Lesson 74: God’s is the only Will. When you have recognized this, you have recognized that your will is His. Our souls are extensions of Source or God. In the language of the Course: we are all brothers and sons of God. As children and extensions of God, our curriculum, blueprints, road maps, karma, and astrological natal charts are the will of God and our souls expressed three dimensionally and astronomically in the heavens for our egos to have access to for guidance from our souls, from our Higher Selves, and from God.

There Is No Will But God’s, I seek His peace today. Through having faith in our Selves, God, Angels, Spirit Guides, a Guru, or Nature and through knowing that the divine plan, the divine curriculum, is there for our learning, growth, and expansion, can we release the ego’s need to grasp for control and allow peace to flow. That is free will.

A man’s heart deviseth his way, but the Lord directeth his steps.  -Proverbs 16:9
